Unfolding Substance - A Workshop

Hatch Admin

Unfolding Substance―a 6 week workshop constructed to assist artists of varied disciplines―from visual arts to writing to music―to develop ideas and subject matter for your work.

Thursdays  from  7-9 pm, July 17th―August 21st
at  Hatch Hamtramck Artist Collective
3456 Evaline Street
Hamtramck, Michigan 48212

Instructor:  Anita Schmaltz

This workshop is born out of an absence in my fine arts education, an education which primarily focused on developing techniques with little to no instruction when it came to developing subject matter.  I was taught  how  to paint, but I wasn’t sure  what  to paint.  Through years of writing and study I’ve generated an endless supply of subject matter for my own projects (from writing to painting to music) and would like to help others do the same.

Through the study of selected artists/creators―Joseph Beuys, David Bowie,  Maguy Marin Ballet Company, etc.―through exploration of symbol, metaphor, archetypes and gesture, this workshop is designed to provide a set a tools & methods to assist in generating subject matter customized to the creator by self-exploration through writing.

The cost for the workshop is $200.00―which includes fees for any handouts.

Students with valid ID receive a 20% discount.
