Interiors: Artwork by Lindsey Harnish

Cafe 1923 Coffeehouse

2287 Holbrook Ave

Hamtramck, Michigan 48212

Opening Reception on Friday, December 6, 6-9pm.

Anatomically inspired paintings in encaustic, acrylic, oil and mixed media that meditate on human nature.

Lindsey Harnish's art explores the interior life and how we are elements of a greater world. In encasutic, acrylic, oil and other mediums, the paintings delve into the subtler nuances of human nature, often incorporating anatomical elements and woodland motifs. Harnish strives to capture the ineffable: scattered notions, vague dreams, but also the endurance of beauty amidst the dark. Her work, an eclectic blend of techniques from Art Nouveau and Lowbrow to the whims of children’s picture books, has been exhibited throughout metro Detroit, including the Scarab Club, the Damned Exhibition and Russell St Industrial Center.

Saints and Miracles. You can believe in whatever God you want or none at all. I think, though, that everyone can agree that good people come into your life. Crazy things happen sometimes, unexplainable things. Your life is touched by other people in positive ways. My work is always inspired by my life and by the people closest to me. In this series of paintings, the stories of family become the stories of myth or of saints. Actual events are spun into dramatic narratives. They become something bigger, greater. But in my view, they are portrayed in these portraits as momentous, as grand, and as influential as they truly are to me in life.

Passage: A Photography Exhibit by PD Rearick - Opens July 27

Suzanne

This exhibit considers the coincidence of moving towards a destination and where light meets the journey. Transitions are made more significant when illuminated, since progress can be gauged based on the light passed through. A little glow adds value to the passing moment, whether artificially or naturally lit, such as street lamps on a darkened highway, radiance between rain showers, or high beams on a country road. These images recreate the special moments of brief security these pinpoints of light offer.

PD Rearick has a BA in Photography from Columbia College and an MFA in Photography from Cranbrook Academy of Art.

Hatch at June on Jefferson
Coffee and ( ___ ), 14405 East Jefferson, Detroit, MI (Map)
Friday-Saturday, June 14 - July 6, 2013
In conjunction with the 10th Annual Jazzin’ on Jefferson outdoor music festival, the Jefferson East Business Association (JEBA) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Urban Priorities Committee, local entrepreneurs, architects, and artists have joined to create June on Jefferson — a month-long pop-up business series.
Selected businesses will set up shop inside five newly renovated storefronts in the heart of the historic Jefferson-Chalmers commercial district.

Hatch helped arrange for the art now on the walls at the "Coffee and ( ___ )" pop-up cafe, including work by Marty Winters, Christian Helser, Alexander Buzzalini, Sean Bieri, Laura Macintyre, and Molly Murphy Landis, and featuring a special original mural by Stephanie Chisholm.

Doors open on Friday, June 14 on the inaugural night of Jazzin’ on Jefferson and will remain open every Friday and Saturday until July 6, 2013. For more information, visit www.juneonjefferson.com.

SAY YES!
Solo Exhibition by David Edward Parker
SAY YES! presents a collection of images and objects that refuse the notion of linear time and story telling; instead they present all the stories in a single moment. This moment is an endless middle, where there is no resolution—only the continual same.
