I've worked as a janitor at an art center for five years - throwing out garbage, repetitively painting gallery walls white, sweeping up dirt, and cleaning toilets. I've seen different groups of people paint the same flower over and over and over again and then leave those paintings behind, adding them to the growing collection of discarded items.
These works are made from the leftovers of the art center made from things forgotten. They are culminations of repetitive physical acts and strict temporal limitations. The labor involved in their making can be equated to that of a minimum wage job, one works a certain amount of hours to obtain a sum that is deemed equitable. Each of these pieces takers nine hours - I begin making them at 8, take a lunch, and am done at 5.
